Entrepreneur in the Making

Ms. Farah’s speech began with a light-hearted introduction. She asked the audience for their age and course, and joked about being the oldest in the room. After the atmosphere became more relaxed, she began telling the audience of how she started in the world of business.

She recalled starting off small – merely reselling clothes she bought from a supplier without having a proper shop. It was her father who decided that she should have open a boutique and helped her set it up. Ms. Farah commented on the challenges she faced and how she overcame them. She showed the audience the simple promotional videos she made with just her phone.

Besides that, she introduced the marketing matrix she used – the importance of being seen, known, liked, and trusted. A person’s business will only bloom once these factors are achieved. Ms Farah emphasized on the importance of content when it comes to promoting one’s business, and that creativity is more important than the resources used.

After that, participants began presenting their business proposals. Some did it individually and some did it in groups. Ms Farah listened well to their proposals and gave them her honest opinions on how they could improve their business.

At the end of the event, Ms Farah was given a token of appreciation, and the event officially came to a close at 12.30 p.m with a group photo with all the participants.

Girls Next Door

By Nur Aina Balqis Binti Mohamad Rosidek

7th October 2017 - Girls Next Door is an event that was held at Sakura College on 6th October 2017. The event was organized under Sakura College 'Exco Kebajikan dan Kemudahan' (Welfare and Convenience Exco) that emphasized on cultivating healthy relationships and harmony between residences of the college.

Girls Next Door event began around 8 PM. However, even before that, residences' eagerness can already be seen as they already started decorating their houses and preparing delicacies, food and drinks for their visitors a day before the event. The theme for Girls Next Door this year is Deepavali or Diwali. Thus, most of the residences were seen dressed mostly in Indian traditional clothes, such as Sari, and Kurti. To make this event more exciting, residences were given a mission to visit at least three houses from three different blocks in order to complete the night.

The houses served scrumptious food such as Roti Canai, fried noodles, and not to forget every Malaysian favourite snack, Murukku. They also decorated their houses with Deepavali themed decors to enhance the beauty of their homes as well as providing photo booth spots for their guests to take pictures for 'Wefie Contest' which is one out of two contests held under Girls Next Door event.

Besides the residences, our beautiful fellows, Dr Nor Hasmaliana binti Abdul Manas and Cik NoorFarida binti Saini also visited each house to support and show courteous with the residences of Sakura College. At that stunning night, Sakura College was filled with laughter and smile from the residences as they enjoy themselves spending quality time with one another.

Girls Next Door has been a successful, glamorous event with the participation of all the residences of Sakura College. The most memorable thing is their spirits in order to make this event flourish. The event ended exactly at 11 and the residences wrapped the day by cleaning up their houses and blocks as our mothers used to say, home sweet home.
