20th September 2017 - ‘Amanat bersama
Pengetua’ or a meeting with the college’s principal, fellow and students was
organized. This yearly event is held at the lecture hall of Centre of Teaching
Facilities 1 (CTF1). Registration of the students began at 7.30 p.m. outside of
the lecture hall where they are sorted based on their college blocks.
The event officially
began at 8.00 p.m. with the arrival of the college’s principal, Cik Siti Nor
Ain Musa, and fellows, Cik NoorFarida binti Sainiand and Dr Nor Hasmaliana
binti Abdul Manas. The students sang Tekad Sakura before
they sat down in their respective seats. The event kicked off with a video
montage of the previous semesters’ activities. Smiles and laughter could be
heard as the seniors recalled back the memories.
Dr. Nor Hasmaliana was a
new college fellow of Sakura college. She advised that all Sakura college
residents maintain the cleanliness of the college, are always disciplined and
do not act accordingly. She also noted the importance of sharing problems with
peers. This can reduce student pressure throughout the course of study.
Dr. Nor Hasmaliana |
Then, the college’s fellow, Cik Noorfarida was invited to give her speech. She began with a warm welcome to both the new and old students of the Sakura college. She joked that the first time she was asked to give a speech, she made a lot of mistakes and spoke too fast, but now, she is more prepared and comfortable to talk to all of the students. She also made it a point to remind them that for as long as they stay in the college, they are obligated to follow the rules and try their best not to tarnish both theirs and the college’s name.
Cik Noorfarida |
After that, it was the
college’s principal’s, Cik Siti Nor Ain, turn to give her speech. She
congratulated the new students for being accepted into the university and the
old students for still being able to stay in the college, noting their past
achievements as she did. She continued Cik Norfaarida’s explanation of the
college rules, particularly the college’s curfew, stating that they are there
and upheld not because the college’s administration wants to be nosy of the
students’ affairs, but rather to protect the students and make sure they are
safe and comfortable during their whole duration of stay in the college.
Cik Siti Nor Ain Musa |
Cik Ain also proudly noted of the college’s
past achievements from the previous year and encourages the new students to
follow in their seniors’ footsteps. She listed off the college’s available
clubs and its yearly activities, and mentions to the first year students that
they are encouraged to join them for merits, at least, if not for pure enjoyment.
The event ends with a final video
montage of the college’s student council and exco team. The meeting brings to a
close at 10 p.m.
