13th October 2019, Sunday – Kolej Sakura’s celebrated its first ever Diwali during “Sakura Bollywood Night”
handled by the Discipline and Protocol Exco. The word Diwali means “row of lights” which is why people who celebrated
this always decorate their home with oil lamps called diyas. This
celebration is not complete without kolam.
On the Sunday morning
starting at 8 am, the kolam was drawn
and decorated with rice flour led by the Indian students in Kolej Sakura. It
was located at the ground floor of Blok B. Kolams
are drawn in order to invite ants, birds and other small creatures to eat
it and is also to welcome the Goddess of Prosperity, Lakshmi. This activity is named Let’s
Art, ended on the afternoon, 12 p.m.
All apartments
participating in this program must decorate their apartment according to the Diwali theme because there will be an Open House activity. Two apartments will
be combined, and they will cooperate to decorate one of the houses. They will
be serving foods for those who came to their house. The students also dressed
up nicely according to the theme, Diwali which
makes the event unique compared to others. Photobooth sections were available
in all the apartments where people can capture their memories for that night.
Miss Ain and Miss Farida went to every apartment to
evaluate their creativities. Some apartments even prepared games for Miss Ain
and Miss Farida in order to make the event much livelier. While visiting the
apartments, Miss Ain and Miss Farida took the chance to get to know the
students better, asking how they are doing and so on. The purpose of this event
was not just to celebrate Diwali, but
to also brings the students together. In the near future, hoping that more
event like this can be organized in order to make life in Kolej Sakura more
exciting.
