SAKURA GIVES BACK

18th March 2018- In conjunction of this year’s edition of SAKURA@KENYALANG 2018, Sakura Gives Back was held exclusively to promote this year’s theme which is Deed For Those In Need. The event took place at Kampung Pangkalan Ampat, Padawan.

This charity event focus solely on people with disabilities and in dire need of special help. Leading the trip was the event’s director, Sitti Aishah binti Najmudin together with 20 selected participants who volunteered to join this charity course. Before the event, the volunteers were told to bring any of their cleaning tools for the cleaning session.

  

The trip from UNIMAS to the rural Kampung Pangkalan Ampat took approximately an hour by bus. The volunteers reached the destination around 8.45 a.m. They were divided into two groups, each consisting of 10 volunteers. Excited faces were seen throughout the volunteers as they were thrilled and eager to help the people in need.

After being divided into two groups, the volunteers each went to their designated houses to give a bag consisting of all the basic needs such as rice, cooking oil and so much more. The recipients were Mamin anak Tuu, Kona anak Keda, Celia anak Raysen, Rapok anak Sambong and Tiya anak Rimbang. Along the houses, the volunteers and the recipients each share their own story and hardship throughout their lives. Many were touched and were in awe at how strong these people are to survive in this economy. A photo session was done to honor these fighters.

After sending the charity gifts bags to the recipients, the volunteers both gathered at each house for the cleaning up session. Nek Tiya’s house and Nek Rapok’s house were both chosen as the last destination for the whole trip. After approximately an hour of cleaning the entire houses, the volunteers were gathered once again at the Ketua Kampung’s house. The Ketua Kampung, KK Mission Anak Limbang was overjoyed with the team’s presence. Mr Mission anak Limbang gave a speech to thank the volunteer team and expressed his desire to work with Sakura College’s team in the near future.

 A photo session of the whole team together with the Ketua Kampung was done to preserve this sweet memory.
