Sayonara Senpai


May 25th, 2017: Sayonara Senpai was held at Multipurpose Hall, Student Pavillion to commemorate all the seniors in their final year who had managed to stay within Sakura College for 3 years or 4 years. The event were attended by the Principal, Ms Siti Nor Ain, and the Fellows, Ms Noorfarida and Dr Hasmaliana.

The event began with the opening speech by Ms Siti Nor Ain in which she expressed her thanks and gratitude for all the final year students for being part of the college until their final semester. She also expressed her hopes and wishes for all the final year students. She would like all of them (final year students) to think of life in college with its hardships as an experience no matter the reason they stayed in college. She hoped that they will not stop learning from those elder then them. She stated that she prayed for all the best for them and wanted them to contribute to themselves, their families and the society.

She ended her speech with this sentence:
“Thank you very much because without all of you, the college will be quiet.”

The attendees were presented with a montage video of the activities that were attended by the seniors after which the dinner began.


The acoustic team presented to the audience a medley of several songs. Among them are Cinta Kita, and Betapa Aku Cinta Padamu. Then a lucky draw session was held followed by a modern dance performance and another lucky draw session.


Then, certificates were presented to all seniors who actively participated in college’s activities by Ms Siti Nor Ain accompanied by President of JPK Sakura, Ms Elisa Elizebeth.



After all the certificates had been presented, two montage videos were shown; the achievements of Sakura College and College Activities for 2016-2017. Then, there was a karaoke session where one of the songs is Layar Impian. The JPK for 2016-2017 also sang a song titled Memori Terindah for all the seniors. At the end, there was a group photo.

Who's At Fault : Sexual Grooming Among Teenagers

21 May 2017- Who’s at fault organized by Exco Pembangunan Sahsiah, Sakura College brought up with a topic about Sexual Grooming Among Teenagers be more than aware where held at Bilik Seminar. The program started at 8 o’clock and ended at 12.00 o’clock.



     In this talk, the motivator was Dr. Nurul Iman bt Jamalul Lail. In the talks, Dr. Nurul Iman explained what were ‘Manual Cinta’. The second slots of the talk were about Grooming . ‘Grooming is the process by which an offender draws a victim into a sexual relationship and maintains that relationship in secrecy. The shrouding of the relationship is an essential feature of grooming ’, said Dr. Siti.


     Before she ended her talk, there was a Q&A session for the participants to ask anything regarding this matter. 
  
The program ended with the given a token of appreciation to Dr. Nurul Iman and Dr. Siti Nur Athirah.

24th May 2017 – To mark the end of the semester, Kolej Sakura organized one final event: “Perjumpaan Pengetua Bersama Pelajar”, or a meeting with the college’s principal. The meeting was at CTF1, DK, and registration began at 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The event started with award ceremony for the various clubs in Kolej Sakura for their contribution during the 2015/2016 session. Cik Noorfarida, the college’s felo, is invited to the stage to hand certificates of appreciation to the club members. This is followed by a series of video montage showcasing the activities and events organized by Kolej Sakura throughout the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 session, and the college orientation for 2016/2017 session.

After that, Kolej Sakura student council president, Cik Aida Suriana, gave a short speech, and Cik. Noorfarida chatted with the students for bit while waiting for the arrival of the college’s principal, Cik Siti Nor Ain. Upon her arrival, another brief award ceremony is held to present certificates of appreciation to the participants of Citrawarna, who have secured a third-place win on behalf of Kolej Sakura during the previous Citrawarna.

Cik Ain was invited forward to give her speech. She addressed several important issues, such as student registration for the following ceremony, and possible new housing arrangements to accommodate more new students in the upcoming intake. She also reminded students to be aware of the process of residential college applications or risk not having a place in the college during the upcoming semester. Besides that, she answered several questions and complaints from the students, such as roommate problems, loud noises from the events being held, unfixed damaged facilities, etc.

The meeting ended at 10.30 p.m. with the usual signing-out process. 

WHO'S AT FAULT : LADIES TALK


20 May 2017- Who’s at fault with second slot organized by Exco Pembangunan Sahsiah of Sakura College with topic specialized to lady only. The talks held at Dewan Syarahan,PITAS which started at 7 o’clock until 10.30 o’clock. The motivator was Dr. Mardiana Kipli a gynecologist from Hospital Umum Sarawak and also a lecturer at medical faculty of UNIMAS.



In this talks, Dr. Mardiana explained the problems faced by all women and shared some tips on preventing its. Besides that, Dr. Mardiana also talks about the important of hygiene for a lady.


Dr. Mardiana also discuss about the dangerous diseases which may happen to all women which was cervical cancer. Therefore, it is important to all ladies for taken a HPV vaccine in order to prevent high risk in future.

The program ended with the given a token of appreciation to Dr. Mardiana.

WHO'S AT FAULT : STD'S BE MORE THAN AWARE


20 May 2017- Who’s at fault organized by Exco Pembangunan Sahsiah, Sakura College brought up with a topic about Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), be more than aware where held at CTF 1. The program started at 8 o’clock and ended at 11.30 o’clock. In this talk, the motivator was Dr. Maila Mustapha a Family Medicine Specialist from Klinik Kesihatan Jalan Masjid. In the talks, Dr. Maila explained what were STD and also its effects. The STD is an illness transmitted between human through sexual behavior.



 Dr. Maila also says that, Sexually Transmitted Impact or STI had bigger effect especially impact on infant and reproductive health. The dangerous about STI were its linked with HIV infection which were increase susceptibility and increase infectiousness which was HIV. Besides that, Dr. Maila said that the symptoms from STD were happened in silent that we never knew although we in healthy life
.


The second parts of the talk were about HIV. ‘HIV is a virus which happens through sexually action or injection drug-sharing needle’, said Dr. Maila. The HIV could bring to AIDS, if the person did not get the treatment. The effect of HIV causes a person loss in weight. Dr. Maila said that the treatment for HIV person was medication for the rest of your life. Before the talks end, Dr. Maila gave some prevention advices to her audiences which were No-High risk behavior-drugs (needle sharing), know your partner well and get early treatment in order to prevent further risk.


The program ended with the given a token of appreciation to Dr. Maila. Besides the program, there was health booths held which they having HIV test, blood pressure test and others more.

Who’s At Fault?: HealthTalk



In conjunction with Who’s at Fault which is organized by Sakura College’ ‘Exco Pembangunan Sahsiah’ (Personality Development Exco), a health talk was held on the 19th May 2017 with Dr Khairul Hafidz as the guest speaker. He is the author of the ‘Pena and Picagari’ and several other notable works, and is well-known on Twitter. The topic of the talk was pornography and its side-effects. This event was an inter-college event so students from other colleges were also invited to join. It was held at CTF1, DK.

The talk began at around 8.30 p.m. with ‘Negaraku’ and a prayer recitation. After that, the emcee made a brief introduction of Dr Khairul Hafidz. During the whole talk, he had a very welcoming presence as he even took pictures of the audience during his time on the stage. He started his talk by defining the different perceptions of pornography. He stated that exposure to pornography mainly affects the brain by releasing different types of hormones. The main culprit which encourages porn addiction is dopamine, which is a type of hormone which is released as a ‘reward’ when a want is fulfilled, giving the person a sense of satisfaction.




Dr Khairul mentioned physical side-effects of porn addiction such as lack of sex drive, erectile dysfunction, delayed or premature ejaculation, and many others. He also stated that porn addiction may also negatively affect relationships especially among couples if the porn user is too entranced with the fantasy he or she gained from watching too much porn. He showed several videos which discuss the side-effects of pornography addiction to prove his points.


Afterwards, a Question&Answer session is open to the audience. Dr Khairul answered several questions concerning the different types of effects of pornography addiction which were not addressed during the talk. The session ended after several questions have been addressed and answered. Then, Cik Siti Nor Ain, Sakura College’s principal, was invited to the stage to hand a token of appreciation to Dr Khairul.
  


The talk came to a close at around 11 p.m. with a group photo of the audience with Dr Khairul Hafidz. The students were also invited to buy some of his books at the registration counter.

Malam Kebudayaan



On 17th May 2017, Malam Kebudayaan or ‘Cultural Night’ was held as one of the closing events of the week-long Konvensyen Wanita Anggun. This event was held at Panggung Gemilang and was open to all residential colleges in UNIMAS. Its theme was ‘Mother’s Day’.



Cultural Night kicked off at 8.00 p.m., with a video montage of various students expressing their love towards their mother and showing gratitude and appreciation to all mothers around the world. After that, students from Bunga Raya College (BRC) entertained the audience with a dikir barat performance, which revolves around the theme of appreciating mothers.





The highlight of the event was the singing competition. With representatives from Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA) as judges, Tun Ahmad Zaidi College, Sakura College, and Bunga Raya College each sent representatives to compete as well as entertain the crowd with their amazing performance. All songs were about mothers or/and women empowerment. Besides that, Bunga Raya College (BRC) also gave acted out a drama centring around a child who believed that her mother was still around, despite having passed on a while ago.




After all the performances have ended, a prize-giving ceremony was held. Announcement of winners from previous KWA sub-events – Cake Chef and Explorace – was made and prizes were handed to the top three winners. As for the singing competition, an acoustic band from the Faculty of Engineering emerged as the top winner. Afterwards, tokens of appreciation were given to the invited judges from FACA.



The event came to a close at 10 p.m. with a video montage of all the sub-events of KWA.

DESIGN YOUR PILLOW




FRIDAY , MAY 12, 2017

In conjunction with Konvensyen Wanita Anggun (KWA), the college organized a Design Your Pillow program which the students need to use up their creativity to design a pillow.  The program was started from 2.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m in Seminar Room. Several committee member came over to conduct the program.



Participants pick a beautiful fabric and make a custom gift pillow for friends. Attach a note with suggested uses – grocery, re-gifting, an extra pillow for traveling, etc.


This pillow patterns something simple that can be made quickly.



The event ended at 12.00 p.m. with a commemoration photo with the participants.
