On the 6th of May, Kolej Sakura organized
“Dearself”: a talk which focused on the issue on mental health. The talk took
place at CTF1, DK, and participant registration began at 8.30 a.m. The first 15
participants received a button badge as door gifts, and other early birds were
given breakfast before the talk.
The invited guests, all from UNIMAS counselling unit, for
the talk were as follows:
·
Puan Fauziah Bee Mohamad Salleh,
·
Puan Saptuyah Barahim,
·
Puan Suria Edwin, and
·
Cik Siti Syafariyah Alias
The first slot, with Puan Fauziah as the speaker, was
mainly about the university’s counselling unit and its purpose. Puan Fauziah
recounted many cases where students struggled with their mental health alone
without proper consultation, which brought disastrous results to themselves.
She encouraged students to talk about their feelings and share their problems
if they have any, as it is considered unhealthy for them to keep their feelings
suppressed. The students were then given a test to measure their depression,
anxiety, and stress level. The first slot ended at 10.30 a.m.
The second slot, with Puan Saptuyah as the speaker,
was about stress and its effects on the body. The slot began with a video,
which was about signs of stress and its toll on a person’s body. Puan Saptuyah
mentioned that stress can be very harmful to a person if not handled properly
and urged the students to always carefully monitor their stress levels and take
a moment to relax when needed. She also said that it is good to begin the day with
a smile and self-motivation. Her slot ended at 12.00 p.m.
After that, the speakers were given a token of
appreciation. The talk ended with a group photo with all the participants, at
12.30 p.m.
