Santai sama-sama Gunung Gading

On the 8th of May 2016, on a bright clear Sunday, Sakura College’s Sports and Recreation Exco organized a hiking trip to Gunung Gading National Park, or also known as the 'Santai sama-sama: Gunung Gading' progam. Lundu. All the participants gathered at the bus stop near the Faculty of Resource Sciences and Technology (FRST) at 5.45 a.m. before they began their journey to Lundu at around 6.15 a.m. The whole journey took about 2 hours, with most of the participants spending their time asleep in the bus.

The participants finally arrived at Gunung Gading National Park at 8.15 a.m. everyone was then asked to do a short warm-up and they are reminded to inform those who are on duty if they feel that they are having difficulty in continuing the hike. After a short briefing session by the officer of the place, who reminded us to always make sure safety and cleanliness are always taken into account during the whole hiking trip, the participants gathered at the foot of the hiking trail and began their hike.

While the trail itself was not particularly hard to follow, the steepness of it made it hard for some of the participants to keep up for too long, as some of them suffered from shortness of breath at times. The moss on the rocks also made the trail quite slippery so the participants had to be extra careful at all times to prevent them from slipping. But despite these challenges, the participants enjoyed the hike, as they were given the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the mountain as well as bath in the cool river water at the foot of the waterfall. They also spent time taking a lot of pictures either of each other or the beautiful scenery around them.

The hiking trip ended around 1 p.m. after the last of the participants finally made their way back to the foot of the trail after a few ways of hiking back down the mountain. The trip down the trail was considerably easier as most of the participants were able to continue their journey without too much hiccups. They were given the chance to shower and change their clothes before they were given lunch to eat. After signing-in and signing out as well as collecting their merit stickers, the participants piled into the bus and left Gunung Gading National Park at 1.45 p.m.

Everyone made it safely back to UNIMAS at 3.30 p.m. This officially marks the end of the activity.
