Organized by Sakura College as an
appreciation towards the final year students who resides in the college, an
event dubbed as ‘Sayonara, Senpai’, or ‘Goodbye, Senior’ was held on the night
of 27th May 2016. The event was meant to be as informal as possible,
where a barbeque night out was arranged instead of a formal dinner. This was
meant to create a warmer and friendlier atmosphere between the attendees, as
this event was also organized to further tighten the bonds between long-time
friends as they reminisce their years together as the college’s residents.
The Principal of the college, Ms Ain,
began her speech by teasing the seniors that they are not allowed to eat just
yet, earning a unanimous protest from the crowd, followed by a ripple of
laughter. She congratulated the seniors for all their achievements during their
time in the college and she mentioned that the event ‘Sayonara, Senpai’ was
held to appreciate all their efforts and contributions. Ms Ain also made it a
point to give advice on how to prepare themselves for the working environment
once they graduate. She reminded that although they were seniors in university,
they will still start from the bottom once they start working, and told them
that it was something they needed to mentally prepare for. Ms Ain urged them
not to give up whenever they are faced with challenges in the workplace, but
instead turn those challenges into motivation to improve themselves.
After the speech, there was a modern
dance performance by the college’s cultural club. The girls wowed everyone with
their stunning performance and the performance ended with a huge applause from
the crowd. At 9 p.m., after a short prayer by the emcee, the seniors were then
invited to eat. They wasted no time in getting out of their seats and made
their way towards the delicious array of food prepared by the college’s
committee members.
The event unofficially ended at
10 p.m.
