On the 16th of October 2016,
the exco of entrepreneurship of Kolej Sakura organized ‘One Million Challenge’.
This event is designed based off the popular board game, ‘Monopoly’, in which
the participants are required to raise more than RM1 million within three
hours.
At 8.00 a.m., all participants gathered at
the seminar room for a short briefing. The MC explained the rules of the game,
in which the participants are given a few ‘job’ options which could help them
raise the money they need. In addition to that, they are also required to buy a
house and a car before the time limit is over. There will be three banks within
the college area where the participants could withdraw and claim the money they
earn, however, one bank could only accept ten teams at a time.
The game finally began at 8.30 a.m. and it
lasts until 11.30 a.m. The participants are reminded to be careful of the loan
sharks who would offer them unconditional loan, but they would confiscate their
belongings without notice. One way to
protect the participants from the loan sharks is to apply for insurance at one
of the three banks.
At 12.00 p.m., a brief closing ceremony is
held at the seminar room. Cik Ain, the college’s principal, gave a short
speech, congratulating the participants and the event organizers for a job well
done. She also emphasized the importance of saving up for the future, and
encouraged the students to involve themselves in entrepreneurship. After she
officiated the closing ceremony, the prize-giving ceremony began. The third
place winner managed to collect RM7 million, the second place winner managed to
collect RM8 million, and the first place winner collected RM9 million. Prizes
were in a form of hampers.
A token of appreciation was given to the
principal, and the president of the college’s student council. After a group
photo with the participants, the event officially came to a close at 12.30 p.m.
