Qowiyul Jismi

Sunday, 13 Mac – It was raining but the show goes on. Students whom joined the half-day event were dropped off at the nearby mosque. While the Muslims were inside the mosque praying solat dhuha, the non-Muslims were playing an ice-breaking game with each other.

Around 9.00 am, all participants were lead through the warming-up exercise as well as the senamrobik. They had songs such as gummy bear and poco-poco. The entire senamrobik went on for about 40 minutes. Then, a short breathing exercise at the end.

After that, they sang the theme song together, that is, “Jalinan by U.N.I.C”. The participants were then divided into 4 groups, each having 8-9 people. They were divided into groups based on slips of paper that each participants picked. To find each other’s group members, they had to make the sounds of the animals that were written on the slips. The groups are Kambing, Harimau, Kucing and Ular.
Each group were told to pick a leader before the LDK session began. During the LDK, they had to come out with the group cheer and group identification made of colour paper such as bracelets and cat’s whiskers. The participants and activity coordinators then moved out to Halaman Samarahan.

At the basketball court, they played “Bola Beracun” which basically is passing the ball while the music is on. When the music stops, the ones holding the two ball had to come out to the middle of the circle and face a punishment that were chosen like doing the chicken dance.

The next game is “Perigi Beracun” which is like dodge ball but with the teams acting as defenders and attackers. The defenders have to dodge the balls and the number of defenders left standing will be counted. The two teams will then switch their roles. The winning team is decided by how many defenders are left standing at the end. Between Kambing and Kucing, the Kucing has won the round with their swift dodges whereas in the other round Ular have defeated the Harimau. With Kucing versus Ular, the results gave the win to Kucing.

In “Belon Air”, group members have to line up in a column where the balloon will be passed from the front to the back by throwing the balloon up in backwards direction. Kucing won with 5 balloons, Harimau (4) and both Kambing and Ular with 2. As there was a draw, an extra deciding round was played to find out the final finalist. In the extra, Kambing got the win. In the finals, Kambing won with 8, Harimau (7) and Kucing (5).

The event ended with some sharing from representatives of each group on what they have learned, followed by prize-giving and a group photo. The categories were “Paling Awesome”, “Paling Happening”, “Paling Trendy” and “Paling Segalanya”. The winners were Kucing, Harimau, Ular and Kambing respectively.

Santai Sama-Sama: Sukaneka

Saturday, 12 Mac – It was a morning full of fun and games with every level in each block sending in the names of their representatives of 19 at the Netball Court, Sakura College. Though, some representatives did not attend due to circumstances. Registration of participants began around 7.00 am until about 7.45 am.
Before the event truly started, there was a warming-up session of about 10 minutes. As previously mentioned, some participants could not attend. Therefore, the organiser decided to have some of the committee to join with the groups that are lacking members.
Before each game was played, a demonstration of how to play was done. There are 5 games in total. Each game was held in a bracketed tournament style with each block as one bracket. Winners of each bracket or block then competed with each other for 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall winners of the game.
The first game is “Telur di Hujung Tanduk” which basically a ping-pong ball in a spoon and the players have to walk a certain distance and then transfer the ball to their teammate. If the ball falls before the player reached her teammate, then she has to start over. The team that finished the fastest is the winner. From Block A, the team that went to the finals is A.3 whereas Block B is B.1 and Block C is C.1.
In the finals, there was an extra condition, that is, one additional team member from the group will drag out the cheer “Sakura” for as long as she can and the ping-pong ball must be passed to the next member before the cheer ended. If not, then the player has to start over. The results are as follows: A.3 having the first place, then B.1 and C.1.

The second game is the “Water Bomb”. A total of 11 members is needed to play the game. Each team will be given 10 balloons filled with water. There is 1 person at the front of the line to give the balloon to the first pair. The first pair will then throw up the balloon in the air for the next pair to catch using a sarong. The final pair will then transfer the balloon to a bucket provided.
Once again, A.3 and B.1 went to the finals with C.3. C.3 went to the finals after they won the additional round against C.2 to break an earlier draw. As previously, 10 balloons were given to each team and the team with the most at the end of the game will win. A.3 once again dominated with B.1 coning in the second place and C.3 in the third.
The next game is the “Water Blind”. The game required 6 members, half will be blindfolded and the other half will have a cup on their head. The one blindfolded will have to turn 5 five times and then scoop out water from a pail and pour it into the cup on the member’s head, guided only by other team members as to the position of the cup. The other will then walk to a bottle then pour the water from the cup to the bottle. Cik Ain participated in the game together with C.1.
In the finals, we have once more, A.3 and from Block B, B.2 and C.2 from Block C. The players were reminded not to hold onto the cup while walking or pouring the water into the bottle and only the string. The overall winner was C.2 followed by A.3 and then B.2.
The fourth game is “Sehati Sejiwa”. There are 6 members from each group. The team are divided into a group of 3, a pair and one other. The first person have to run with a ribbon and pick up another ribbon then together with two others have to tie their legs together. Then, moving together to the other half of their team and again, tying their legs. The team to reach the end the fastest wins the round.
The finals for the game had to be delayed slightly as the ribbons needed to be untangled. After the ribbons were untangled and some could not so alternatives were necessary, the teams that went to the finals were A.1, B.1 and C.2. First place went to C.2, then A.1 and finally B.1.
The final game is “Qu Puteh”. The game is about search for rubber bands in a plate of flour without using hands, only the face and the mouth. There are five members from each group. The one that has the most rubber bands wins. A.3, B.3 and C.3 won their respective between levels round.
The finals for the games has a slight twist. A layer of flour already mixed with water was poured on top of only flour with rubber bands inside. The winning condition remains the same. C.3 won first place with A.3 in the second place and B.3 in the third.
Soon after the finals for the fifth game, the closing ceremony was held. The overall winners of the entire event is A.3 at the first place followed by C.2 and B.1. Other than the overall winners, other teams receive consolation prizes. A small gift was given to Cik Ain by the program director. The event ended around 12.30 pm.

EAT RIGHT BE BRIGHT

27th March 2016: ‘We are what we eat’. This quote is very famous when we talk about healthy lifestyle. Today, a talk entitled ‘Eat Bright Be Bright’ delivered by Dr Bustari Eddie, personal nutrition coach and a physician emphasize about the important of consuming healthy and balanced nutrition.

Nutrition is what our body needs on daily basis to stay healthy. According to Dr Bustari, people tend to consume foods but not nutrition. Food like junk food, fast food and processed food are very bad for health. The basic of nutrition includes fiber, water, macronutrients, micronutrients, and phytonutrients. Macronutrients include the uptake of carbohydrate, protein and fat while micronutrients include the uptake of vitamins and minerals.

Moreover, water is very vital for body. For every 25kg of body weight, people need to drink 1L of water to keep healthy. Women’s water index is about 50-55% for normal person. Less water index percentage will lead to dehydration and causing the urine colour to be darker.

Dr Bustari also reminding about the importance of taking breakfast. As people getting busy nowadays, they neglect the importance of taking breakfast and tend to directly take lunch in the afternoon. This will cause body to feel fatigue, sleepy, hungry and cannot concentrate. There are 3 types of breakfast, no breakfast, quick breakfast and traditional breakfast.

Lastly, to stay healthy, we must practice balanced nutrition, drink enough water, exercise and get enough rest.

There was Q&A session after the talk. One of the student asked, ‘What is teenagers take a multivitamins supplement but not practising healthy and balanced diet?’ Dr Bustari replied, ‘There is no used to take the supplement but at the same time, not practising balanced diet, there will be no change.’

Keep practising balanced diet by taking healthy food. Eat right, be bright!

Help Me, I'm Broke!

“As far as I’m concern, girls don’t go broke”, was the first line blurted out by Dr Muhammad Abdullah bin Zaidel, the invited speaker for one of the most anticipating talks this semester. Concerned on the looks the audiences gave, Dr Muhammad Abdullah didn’t abruptly turn down the curiosity of the audiences. Instead, he went along explaining of all the reasons behind his presence to the talk with his promising facts and experiences.

Suited up in a grey coat on top of his black t-shirt that tucked in his yellowish-brown trouser, did actually do justice on hinting people about his education background, as well as the awards and positions that he received and currently hold, although he’s currently a lecturer in UNIMAS, specifically under the Faculty of Economy and Business (FEB).

In the early hour of the talk, shown on the presentation slide was the monthly budget that Dr Muhammad Abdullah estimated for students as for their living. Surprisingly, all of the participants in the hall popped out one same answer when the speaker asked about their budget compared with what he estimated – “less”. And that’s how the audiences know where the talk would be headed up to and went into it willingly.

One of the important lessons shared by the respected speaker was the ‘one-third rule of financial management’. By dividing the amount of money into three, “it should be enough to pay your debts, expenses and your living”, convinced Dr Muhammad. Not only he helped people on planning a good financial management, he has also talked about peoples’ perspective on financial management that might vary from person to person as to open the eyes of the audiences.

The last part of the talk was saved for some Q&A session that actually has led the talk into ‘how-to’s’ deal with the reality-happening and future preparations on finance. Out of all the points and useful supplies of ideas, facts and lessons on financial management by Dr Muhammad Abdullah, the one core part that has actually stunned the audiences was the fact that, “the only way out of poverty is – education”.

ABC Special

As girls, most of us would experience that ‘special time of the month’. Despite experiencing it on a fairly regular basis, we sometimes have our own questions and speculations about it that we are hesitant to inquire about. Well, those questions were addressed and answered on the 18th of March 2016, when Kolej Sakura in collaboration with JASSA organized an event called ‘Allah Bagi Cuti Special’ or fondly known as ‘ABC Special’. This talk was held at a lecture hall in PITAS, with Ustazah Nadiyah Hashim as a guest speaker.

Students began to gather in the hall around 7.30 p.m for the signing in process. The event formally started at approximately 8.30 p.m with the arrival of the guest speaker, accompanied by the Fellow of the college, Madam Noorfarida. After singing the Asmaul Husna and a recitation of a short prayer, everyone took their seats as a video began to play. The video itself was an interesting one as it addressed various issues on menstruation and how in certain cultures, women who are menstruating are considered ‘unclean’ and ‘impure’, going so far as not allowing menstruating women to not eat and drink from the same source as the other family members. It explained how Islam is unlike these cultures, and how the religion accepts menstruation as a natural process and not a reason to shun women. The video ended on a positive note, as the narrator expressed her gratitude as being part of a very considerate and accepting religion such as Islam.

Ustazah Nadiyah, introduced as a Contemporary Islamic Studies lecturer in UiTM Kota Samarahan, was then invited to the stage to give her talk. She started her speech by expressing her interest in the video and further cemented the fact that unlike certain cultures, Islam is one of the few existing ones that do not shun women for being who they are. Women, before the existence of Islam, were once treated as nothing more than a commodity and a source of sexual pleasure, bearing very little to no rights as a human being. It was only after Islam, she said, that women was defended and given rights.

She then addressed the main issue of the evening; menstruation and how Islam views it. Ustazah Nadiyah explained that menstruation itself had various benefits such as preparing women for hardships of during and after childbirth as well as being as the sign of fertility. She further discussed on ways to reduce the pain that came with our monthly flow and the do’s and don’ts during menstruation. The students were rapt with attention as she spoke, as there was a never dull moment during her talk and her direct and blunt sense of humor never failed to bring laughter in the lecture hall.

The talk ended with a Q&A session as she addressed various issues and inquiries from the students. The event officially came to an end at 10 p.m. after a souvenir was handed to the guest speaker by the JASSA representative. The students were then reminded to sign-out and collect their merit stickers before taking their leave.

Bridge Building Challenge

A brand new mind-engaging and skill-requiring game, Bridge Building Challenge which organized and managed successfully by Entrepreneurship has kicked off the Saturday morning on March 5, 2015.

The Seminar Room of Block A began to be filled with the 10 builder groups which pre-registered through Sakura’s facebook page and another 5 Entrepreneurship-representing groups at around 7:30 A.M. Each team of builders and Entrepreneurship representative (E representatives) competed according to their category as in builders versus builders and E representatives against E representatives.

For the first half hour, participants were explained about the rules, the dos and don’ts as to ensure the understanding of the players and smooth flow of the game by the program director.

As the game started off, each builder group was given the same amount of money and only one of the members of each builder groups was allowed to purchase items from either of the shops (E representatives) for the stuffs that they would use to build up their bridges.

Since a limited time was given for the purchasing activities, the game has indirectly taught the builders to think, plan and decide wisely on the items that help in build their desired bridges. Builders were given a plenty of time as to construct their bridges with constant reminder from the organizer about how much time left and the things that would make their bridges to be disqualified.

As the time for the builders to finish their bridges has coming to an end, all the bridges was then assembled on a table to be examined by the respective VIPs to give marks on one of the criteria for the winner which is creativity. The next criterion was tested through the stability and firmness of the bridges by putting on a pile on the bridges which then slowly poured in with water until the specific amount that the bridge able to withstand. The marks given were also based on the costs spent on the items of the bridge.

The winners of builders were chosen according to the bridges which the most creative, the most firm and the most low-cost. With that, Alpha has been regarded as the winner for the first place, which followed by Trio and Kahoot for the runner-up and second runner-up respectively. On the other hand, MFV has grabbed the winner title for the Entrepreneurship representative category by being the shop with the most bought items and has the highest earnings.
