Malam Gala Sakti



Held at UCSI hotel on the 17th of December 2017, Malam Gala Sakti (MGS) is the final event of Kolej Sakura, organized to celebrate both the end of the semester and students’ achievements. The theme of the event is Rockstar Rock and Roll, and guests can be seen decked out in several combinations of jean and leather to fit the theme.




The guests started to arrive at 7.00 a.m., and the dinner officially kicked off at approximately 8.00 p.m., after the arrival of the VIPs. The event was officiated with UNIMAS’ and Kolej Sakura’s anthem, and speeches by the event director, college principal Ms Siti Nor Ain binti Haji Musa, and TNC HEPA, Prof Mohd Fadzil, who was represented by his wife.


The guests were then invited to eat, and a few performances by students entertained them as they ate. There were a few sessions of lucky draw and mini games, where winners bring home towels and t-shirts, and hampers as the grand prize. A montage of previous activities throughout the semester, edited by the Sakura Editorial Board, was also played. Apartment leaders and JPK members were also awarded certification of appreciation that night.




Special awards were given to students who excelled in various fields such as entrepreneurship, publicity, performing arts, sports, academics, etc. They were awarded with a plaque to signify their achievements.

The highlight of the night was the presenting the winner for Rock Queen, Rock King, and Hot Staff; guests who met the criteria for the best outfit of the night were nominated and asked to do a short catwalk on the stage. The winners were awarded with a crown and a sash.






The event ended at 10.30 p.m., with a group photo session.

The Final Sprint



15th December 2017 – The Final Sprint is a motivational talk on last minute exam preparations organised by JASSA. The invited speaker is Tuan Haji Roslan Mohamad, currently the Sarawak Regional Director for Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. He received a Degree and a Masters in Business Administration from International Islamic University Malaysia as well as presented papers at World Expo 2000 Hanover, Germany; 3GSM Asia, Singapore; and others. The event was an inter-college event and was held at CTF1, DK. Around 300 students attended the talk.



          Before the speaker began with his sharing, he gave several useful advices regarding life. Some of which are:
            “Look after your time; make full use of it. It is free resources given to you and if its gone, its gone.”
            “Work hard now and reap the fruit later.”

          Tuan Haji Roslan had 6 important focus in his talk which are last minute study plan; leverage study tools; stay focused, avoid distraction; focus on weak spots; study past papers; and sleep well, don’t panic.

          Last minute study plan is regarding making a plan for study by being aware of several things such as the date and venue of the exams, the course syllabus, the course materials and creating a study schedules with breaks and not cramming. Leveraging study tools is about using tools such as mind maps, flash cards, audio and video resources wherever possible and needed.

            As it is the final sprint, the speaker gave recommendation to take a look at the course syllabus and figure which particular sub-topics that students are not confident in and focus more on that part. He also greatly emphasised on avoiding distractions by encouraging students to find study spots where they will not be easily distracted as well as learning to say no to distractions.

        He also advised to study past papers should it be available and examine the trends for that subject as there are finite number of questions that the lecturer can ask. He told all the students to sleep well before the exam, stay calm and pray as well as making that everything needed for the exams are prepared and packed inside the bag.


            After the talk, there was a Question and Answer session. There were several questions such how do we face the final exams when the carry marks are not satisfactory. To which, he answered, “Face reality. Make sure the final exams you get full marks. For subjects that is 4 credit hours, give more attention and time.” Another question was on how to cope with external stimulus. The answer he gave was “Be proactive. You make the choice on how to react.”

            After the talk ended, there was a small appreciation ceremony whereby Cik Siti Nor Ain was invited to the stage to present a token of appreciation to the speaker, Tuan Haji Roslan Mohammad. To end the talk, there was a group photo session.

AMANAT PENGETUA

13th Disember 2017 – To mark the end of the semester, Kolej Sakura organized one final event: “Amanat Pengetua”, or a meeting with the college’s principal. The meeting was at CTF1, DK, and registration began at 7 p.m. until 7.50 p.m.


      The event officially began at 8.00 p.m. with the arrival of the college’s principal, Cik Siti Nor Ain Musa, and fellows, Cik NoorFarida binti Sainiand and Dr Nor Hasmaliana binti Abdul Manas. The students sang Unimas Gemilang and Tekad Sakura before they sat down in their respective seats. The event kicked off with a video montage of the previous semesters’ activities. Smiles and laughter could be heard as the seniors recalled back the memories.



The event started with award ceremony for the various clubs in Kolej Sakura for their contribution during the 2017/2018  session. This is followed by a series of video montage showcasing the activities and events organized by Kolej Sakura throughout the 2017/2018. 

Cik Ain was invited forward to give her speech. She addressed several important issues, such as student registration for the following ceremony, and possible new arrangements with same housemate to in the upcoming semester. She also reminded students to be aware of the process of residential college applications or risk not having a place in the college during the upcoming semester. Besides that, she answered several questions and complaints from the students, such as roommate problems, loud noises from the events being held, unfixed damaged facilities, etc.


The meeting ended at 10.30 p.m. with the usual signing-out process.

Sakura Get Together



9th December 2017 – Sakura Get Together was organised by the College Representative Committee of Sakura College. The event was open to all Sakura College residents and held at the Parking Lot of Block C. The event started at 4.30pm with a break from 6.30pm until 7.30pm and ended around 10.30pm.


            The event was held to create greater bonds of friendships among the college residents. The event was a large gotong-royong preparation of food as well as several other activities. The students prepared the ingredients such as peeling the skin of the corns, slicing the carrots and sausages at the parking lot whereas the porridge was prepared at the area in between Block B and C. The preparation for the porridge also included the participation of Cik Siti Nor Ain as well as Pak Ali.


            Once the preparation was done at the parking lot, several activities were conducted with the students such as a version of the telephone game or pass the message via drawing. There was also a mashed up of musical chair and open the presents; and guessing the amount of chocoballs in a container.

            In the evening, there was an acoustic session followed by students taking their food, the fruits of their labour earlier. The evening slot was attended by Cik Siti Nor Ain and Cik Noorfarida Saini. There was also a charades activity which turned into a guess the riddle activity. There was also song requests and singing by interested students.


            The event ended with a group photo.
