Help Me, I'm Broke!

“As far as I’m concern, girls don’t go broke”, was the first line blurted out by Dr Muhammad Abdullah bin Zaidel, the invited speaker for one of the most anticipating talks this semester. Concerned on the looks the audiences gave, Dr Muhammad Abdullah didn’t abruptly turn down the curiosity of the audiences. Instead, he went along explaining of all the reasons behind his presence to the talk with his promising facts and experiences.

Suited up in a grey coat on top of his black t-shirt that tucked in his yellowish-brown trouser, did actually do justice on hinting people about his education background, as well as the awards and positions that he received and currently hold, although he’s currently a lecturer in UNIMAS, specifically under the Faculty of Economy and Business (FEB).

In the early hour of the talk, shown on the presentation slide was the monthly budget that Dr Muhammad Abdullah estimated for students as for their living. Surprisingly, all of the participants in the hall popped out one same answer when the speaker asked about their budget compared with what he estimated – “less”. And that’s how the audiences know where the talk would be headed up to and went into it willingly.

One of the important lessons shared by the respected speaker was the ‘one-third rule of financial management’. By dividing the amount of money into three, “it should be enough to pay your debts, expenses and your living”, convinced Dr Muhammad. Not only he helped people on planning a good financial management, he has also talked about peoples’ perspective on financial management that might vary from person to person as to open the eyes of the audiences.

The last part of the talk was saved for some Q&A session that actually has led the talk into ‘how-to’s’ deal with the reality-happening and future preparations on finance. Out of all the points and useful supplies of ideas, facts and lessons on financial management by Dr Muhammad Abdullah, the one core part that has actually stunned the audiences was the fact that, “the only way out of poverty is – education”.
