Mobuba Day

What better way to unwind, relax and get away from all the stress than a movie night? Well, Sakura College did not only have one movie night, but two of them! On the 13th and 20th of May, the college organized one movie night on each date, or better known as ‘Mobuba Day’ among the college residents.

On both nights, the movie began playing at 8 p.m. sharp, at the college’s seminar room in Block A. Before that, the students were required to sign in and pay an entrance fee of RM2. The college’s entrepreneurial club also took part in the movie night by selling snacks at cheap prices; a cup of fries at only RM1.50, as well as four pieces of nugget at the same price. Drinks were only sold at RM1. The students did not waste the opportunity to gorge themselves on cheap but delicious food during the movie.

The first movie night featured a horror Malay movie titled ‘Munafik’, directed by Syamsul Yusof. This movie tells a story about Adam, who suffers from great depression and is in a constant state of denial after his wife’s untimely death. His religious belief is severely shaken, and he considers himself incompetent in continuing his medicinal practices. However, after he is forced to cure a possessed woman named Maria, strange event began to haunt him. He also suspects that whatever happened to Maria is deeply connected with his wife’s death, and he is more determined than ever to find her killer.

The second movie night featured another Malay movie, titled ‘Ola Bola’, directed by Chiu Keng Guan. This movie tells a story about the Malaysian National Football Team in 1980, and their journey and struggles to make it to the 1980’s Summer Olympics. This highly inspiring movie taught us on the importance of teamwork, and the ability to believe in oneself and each other. One notable quote from the movie is said by the character ‘Cai’, who has been nothing but a substitute player for the past eight years of his football career, and has never been on the field. Despite this, his passion towards football never wavers and he says that ‘even if he is just a tiny screw, he wants to be a tiny, useful screw’, which teaches the viewers that no matter how small your role in a team is, you will always be an important part of something bigger
.
Each movie has its own notable lessons, and the students enjoyed both movie nights. Both nights last approximately for two hours, with the signing-out process by the students marking the official end of the event.
