Malam Gala Sakti


             December 11th, Sakura’s Annual Dinner, the Malam Gala Sakti, was held at Sarawak House, Grand Continental Hotel. The theme for the dinner was ‘Flower Power’ whereby participants were encouraged to wear attire or accessories that fit the theme. The dinner was held to appreciate Sakura College’s students whom have contributed a lot to the college. 

            The list of invited guests to the event include the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof Mohd Fadzil and his wife, Vice Registrar of Pusat Khidmat Pelajar, Mr Nasriman and his wife, Principal of Sakura College, Ms Siti Nor Ain, Program Director of Malam Gala Sakti, Ms Elisa Elizabeth, whom is serving concurrently as President of Student Representative Committee (JPK) of Sakura College 2016/2017 Session and Felo of Sakura College, Dr Hasmaliana.

           The event began with singing the UNIMAS Gemilang, UNIMAS Official Song as well as Tekad Sakura, Sakura College Official Song. The audience were then presented with the montage video created by Sakura Editorial Board (SEB) of events and activities held during the year 2015/2016. 


          Then, the event proceeded with the welcoming speech from Ms Ain where she gave her appreciation to the invited guests for coming to the dinner, to the Student Representative Committee as well as to the achievements made by the students of Sakura College. She also expressed her hopes that the first year students would be able to gain inspiration from the achievements of their seniors.


            Prof Mohd Fadzil were then invited to give his speech as well as to officiate the event. He explained that he had been invited to Malam Gala Sakti for 6 years and never failed to attend or to send his wife as his representative, and that he had watched the transformation of Sakura College from Kawaii to Warriors. He also congratulated Sakura College for being able to organise a dinner outside of the campus and for organising great events.

 Paraphrased from Prof Mohd Fadzil’s speech and translated into English:

“Once in a while, it is good to organise a dinner outside of the campus and participate in order to get the ambience, atmosphere and experience. To start something, there is always negative views. However, after some time, it becomes a tradition (referring to Malam Gala Sakti that has been held for 6 years now)”

           When referring to organising great events, Prof Mohd Fadzil related his experience while visiting the campus one day. He and his driver were near Dahlia College when he saw some ambulance which instilled some worry in him and he told his driver to approach that area. While on the way, he saw students pouring water and coincidentally the road was red in colour and he asked what is going on and received the answer, Colour Run. He also said that university age is the age where we have the most fun. 

 A few slices of life from Prof Mohd Fadzil:

“Life is simple, if you understand others.”

Translated from Bahasa Melayu, “Patience is part of the test.”

            He ended his speech by expressing his hope that Sakura College will continue to succeed.
The event continued with dinner while watching the montage videos of every unit in Sakura College and then, a modern dance performance by representatives from Anak Seni Sakura, Arts and Culture Unit of Sakura College. A lucky draw slot was next followed by presentation of the Special Awards.



 

             The Special Awards were White Lily, for Upright Character, won by Maisarah Bt Hussian; Tulip, for Arts and Culture, won by Samantha Anak Ambie; Pheony Flower, for Entrepreneurship, won by Nur Nasuha Bt Sani; Statice Flower, for Publicity, won by Sharifah Alia Amilla; Gladiolus, for Sports, won by Amirah Mazlin Abu Bakar; Iris, for Academic Achievement, won by Nurshafiqah Badroll Hisham; Larkspur, for Most Active Student, won by Noor Alya Nadhirah Roseli; and last but definitely not least, Anemone , for Excellent JPK, won by Wan Azliza Wan Daud (the previous President). The Special Awards were presented by Prof Mohd Fadzil.



          
            Then, the audience were presented with an acoustic performance, also from representatives of Anak Seni Sakura. Then, a performance from the JPK 2016/2017 Session with the song, Pencuri Hati by Ayda Jebat. Followed by, presentations of certificates to the previous JPK of 2015/2016 Session by Cik Ain and then another slot of Lucky Draw. Queen of the Night (Miss Sakura 2016) was also crowned, a Ms Shereena Anak Obeng.


          Appreciation gifts to the invited guests were presented. Ms Ain’s by the President, Elisa Elizebeth; Mr Nasriman’s and Prof Mohd Fadzil’s by Ms. Ain. The dinner ended with a group photo of the invited guests and another with the audience.
