SAKURA@KENYALANG: MODERN DANCE

Reported by Nur Aina Balqis Binti Mohamad Rosidek

21st March 2018 - An event was held on the night of 20th March called Modern Dance Competition. This competition is held to celebrate young generations that are talented and aspiring in dancing. Furthermore, the competition also like to highlight that undergraduate students should be able to express themselves through the movements of their bodies.

The competition started at 9PM and the emcees of the evening first introduced the judges for the competition. Spectators were first impressed by the dance of the first contestant group. They were agile on the stage and their movements were bold, giving the best first performance to the spectators as well as the judges. The next dance performance was done after an acoustic session to initialize the heightened excitement from the spectators.

The competition continues on with dance groups that acted as representatives from various college dorms in UNIMAS. The representatives from Sakura College were able to show how talented and energetic they were as well. While the spectators busied themselves, enjoying the performances from the competitors, they were given a surprise appearance by none other than Didie Alias. She was gracious enough to thank the event committees had invited her to join for the amazing night. She went on to emphasize on how the undergraduates should focus on their studies first before venturing into other fields. However, she also mentioned that it is good to have something you are passionate about but to just prioritize what is important as of for now.

Next, the competition continued on with various dance battles that showcases unique dance movements. Some of the contestants glide, shuffle and some even waltz graciously on the makeshift dance floor. The competition soon ends with the judges evaluating the scores and deciding on the winners. It was indeed a fun night, different than the previous nights. The contestants, spectators and even the committees had enjoyed themselves. I hope that such event would be held once more in the future to commemorate talented youth.
